Nice selection of plants, love all the metal animal sculptures. Restaurant Menu looks lovely.

Review №2

Went on Sunday 23 August. No signage from car park so tried side door first and looked like fool. Good checks at entrance although doorman needs to be sensitive to the needs of people with autism. Eating area could be better ventilated - clear screens that could have been opened up. Didn't have plantain when I chose vegan ackee & calaloo with plantain rice so had vegan tart instead. Lovely staff and nice environment but need to get the basics right.

Review №3

One of the best place visited in the Uk. Definitely best Garden center :) as you come in, it feels you have travelled to Africa thousands of miles in just a minute. Great experience, interesting and different taste of food compared to the usual stuff..

Review №4

A lovely place to visit ,the lady at the entrance was so friendly and welcoming and very thorough with making sure that you had masks on ,sanitised your hands and used the gloves provided to handle the goods ,she even took our temperatures which is the only place we have been ever since lockdown eased to do all this ,I think that they are setting a good example and everywhere should follow in this good covid19 preventionAs for the place itself although it was extremely difficult to get around on my mobility scooter due to the pebbles (we will try the manual wheelchair nxt time we visit to see how that goes) it was amazing, the kids loved finding all the different metal animal sculptures and there was even a beautiful waterfall which is a treat to the eyes ,they have all sorts of plants and shrubs at reasonable prices ,and its lovely to look at all the tropical plants that you typically dont find in a usual garden centre ,we didnt visit the cafe/bar or the restaurant this time but it was quite full so must be good,we will have to try it nxt time we visit ,however we visited the gift shop that is filled with lots of fair trade African gifts at very fair prices , so much to see and do at this venue you could spend the whole day here and enjoy every minute ,on our way out the lovely lady who originally checked us on our way in asked us how our visit was which I think was goodThis place Is definitely worth a visit and is suitable for young and old alike ,Give it a try and you will love this hidden gem

Review №5

Such a comfortable place to have coffee, a walk or a meal for couples, families or alone. Amazing decor, friendly staff and such a warm welcoming vibe from the moment you walk in.

Review №6

Very friendly staff at an unusual, really nice garden centre your temperature is checked as you enter and gloves are supplied free which is very good in these uncertain times. One drawback is disabled access the chippings around the centre make it difficult for wheelchairs to get round but a lot of garden centres are the same so I am not going to moan about that

Review №7

A cultural oasis in a sea of green and right on the edge of the city.Really nice staff, pretty handy with the cocktails. Food was good, loved the tiffin tin.the Walk is atmospheric and the 'beach' is great for the kids.Looking forward to the next visit!

Review №8

Quite extraordinary garden & event centre! Very interesting artifacts for sale. Epic cakes.

Review №9

Loved all the metal animals and plants. Food wasn't as good as last year. Not much of a selection. This would be a great place to take kids.

Review №10

Absolutely stunning great food great atmosphere kids loved the African theme. 1000% recommended

Review №11

Very nice but small place

Review №12

Ohh had been looking to go here for afew years, since had moved from first venue. Checked on line lovely menu!!! Well " new world " only about 4 different meals to choose for....desided not to stay. Plant area lovely...will try re visiting when world gets back to"normal "

Review №13

Amazing place loved all the African animals, good service, good selection of unusual plants

Review №14

Lovely place, lady at the entrance very good with anxious people like me. Well worth a visit. Unfortunately your not allowed to take any drinks in with you unless you have a medical condition that requires frequent sips of water. But you can purchase drinks from them.

Review №15

I have been coming here since its early both the garden centre and the band/tribute nights...and have introduced many family and friends to this hidden little gem of a place. It is such a unique venue, the atmosphere is amazing, and the diversity of people and age groups only adds to the ambience...and their band/tribute nights are always a hit for it was on the 14th March dancing to The One Love Band. Food was were the cocktails...although a bit pricey!!Only downside is...the service is slow...especially at the there's never enough staff to cope with the volume of people that need serving.

Review №16

What an amazing place, the whole experince was funtastic. The food and atmosphere was prefect. Cant believe I didn't know about this place on our doorstep until a friend recommanded. Defo worth a visit.

Review №17

Amazing atmosphere. Extremely welcoming and helpful. Made you feel extremely safe, masks to be work and temperature taken on arrival.

Review №18

Love this place, food was really good and you feel like you are on holiday whilst being here. Nice and relaxing.

Review №19

We love a little visit here. I just wish I could afford the sculptures and plants! We've not been in the cafe, so can't comment on that. But it looks like a wonderful venue for a night out.

Review №20

Great place for kids to spend couple of hours. Makes you feel like your on holiday! Staff are friendly and the bar/restaurant is good

Review №21

Love it. Once you're there, you'd think your abroad! Although menu has very little choices, the food is great especially the goat curry!

Review №22

Loved it! We booked a night out, food and Reggae night. Sadly due to covid19, restrictions were in place. Only 4 stars given after watching others be served at their tables 3 times even though we'd walked up to a waiter/waitress twice to politely request service. (table service only) over an hour to be served a drink, plus seeing a 'package' being passed between customers blatently across a table wasn't ideal but there's always 1 group to spoil it I think a little under staffed because of the recent covid restrictions of table service only.Food was amazing and the Reggae night topped it off.We will return, hopefully more staff will be made available

Review №23

Fascinating place African themed garden centre. A reaĺly good place to sit outside during the hot weather. Food is straightforward and reasonably priced. I had a tasty fish and chips.

Review №24

Lovely meal..staff went the extra mile..half price meal..big thumbs up to the chef..or chefette..

Review №25

Lovely place to visit been many well done Chris

Review №26

Love this place. Amazing food. Great cocktails. Will definately be visiting again.

Review №27

Akamba is a lovely place, with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. The main dining room is just really lovely, dark and welcoming with some awesome carved wooden statues and animals. We went during the day but it looks like they have live music and evening events etc, and I can imagine that it lights up and gets busy at night.

Review №28

Fabulous Jamaican food, obviously an authentic chef!

Review №29

Like it - took my little one and nice there for a disco a while back. We really enjoyed it and got a couple of trinkets at the end in the gift shop. Thanks Steve

Review №30

The place was lovely ..... The staff was very friendly and the food was nice️

Review №39

Akamba the hidden jungle that everyone loves worth a visit especially on rainy day it feels like you are in a rainforest I truly love this place prices to see the animals is more than reasonable and prices in the restaurant are reasonable (not cheap but for the whole experienced it's more than reasonable) but not expensive either I use an electric wheelchair and managed to get round most of it and if you are an active manual wheelchair user you will be ok it also has disabled toilets I love this place and am still amazed that lots of people don't know it's here it's a true hidden gem

Review №40

Lovely place fun for children lovely food and drinks .

Review №41

Good food and lovely tropical plants. Good atmosphere

Review №42

Nice place to visit. African garden mix with metal zoo animals and caffes. Many Good sitting areas for having rest with coffe or lunch. Playground beach for children. 1 star less for closing animal house with tropical animals.

Review №43

Great place to visit bought some realy nice jungle type plant reasonable prices enchanting

Review №44

Make sure you have time to stop off here if you are in the area. There is a great variety of animals to see at the centre and the staff were extremely knowledgeable.

Review №45

A completely different experience! Take the kids as they will love playing hide and seek amongst the animals. Better on a sunny day! Staff Very friendly & helpful

Review №46

Enjoyed the garden we had food which was quite tasty. The peopke were friendly and we were surrounded by lush greenery

Review №47

Always love and recommend - step in to africa - & great party evening events with various bands.. food great, although some menu items not to every ones taste but there bound to be something you will like..Great for kids too! especially summer with the sand pit area - Enjoy!

Review №48

Disappointed the website didn't mention the hot house was closed in winter and disappointed that when I asked for two not hot, hot chocolates I got two very hot chocolates that were low grade instant mix for over £2 a pop. I asked for marshmallows on the side and got marshmallows on the top. The guys serving was helpful and got extra napkins and additional cold milk to cool down the hot chocolates. Good atmosphere (really looks like a jungle even in the depths of winter) but would probably go back in the summer.

Review №49

Great little finger tucked awry. Not really much I the wash of plants but brilliant for a wander and great cafe.

Review №50

Coffees excellent need to book in for a breakfast though

Review №51

What an amazing unique experience. The large metal animals are great and the walk through the palms really does create a great environment. The main bar area is wonderful and cosy you really do feel like you are whisked off to Africa only with Birmingham accents.Food was great and would love to catch a show on there stage.

Review №52

Always love coming here, lovely food too!

Review №53

I really liked this place. A bit smaller than expected but so interesting. They have live music on every weekend so I will definitely be visiting again. Their metal formed animals are amazing.

Review №54

Great place, tasty food & variety of drinks. Laid back service so allow yourself time to sit back & enjoy the unique surroundings. You'll find yourself going back time & time again! This is no ordinary garden centre..... this is a full on experience with animals real & sculptures amongst lush greenery. You'll feel like you've been away on holiday!

Review №55

Love this place but not the food

Review №56

Great find. Good food and fun setting with nice little tropical bird and reptile house to explore. Well worth a visit.

Review №57

Went to a themed night taking several friends with us.We did not know what to expect, but was so impressed by the end if the night that we are looking to book another session here with more friends. Can only say what a brillient team they were. Great night. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Review №58

Great place...interesting, unusual, some cleverly thought out ideas. Suitable for all ages...something quite different for Shirley.

Review №59

It a lovely place staff were very friendly and welcoming food was lovely with great portions kids in joy live reptiles and bird aver the only thing that the plants were a bit tried

Review №60

We went for a meal it was fantastic, food was lovely

Review №61

Friendly and interesting with a great goat curry. We will definitely be back.

Review №62

Excellent service with all safety procedures in place and the coffee delicious

Review №63

A taste of the tropics in the heart of the Midlands. Fantastic African Art, great food, extensive bar, delightful coffee shop and a warm staff welcome no matter the weather. Subscribe to my YouTube channel for more from me.

Review №64

The place itself is really lovely, but the food could be a bit better, therefore, I give them 4 stars out of 5!

Review №65

Lovely friendly place food out this world we would go again

Review №66

Great place , great staff and atmosphere, lovely food ..

Review №67

Lovely atmosphere and food. Recommended.

Review №68

A unique centre and a must see. More garden centres should look to be this different and give it an edge rather than just like the rest. Staff very friendly. A refreshing change. A jewel in the Midlands. They have a reptile area, very cheap to enter and you can learn and meet some of the animals. The kids will love it. Make the visit.

Review №69

Went here last night for work Christmas party. Choice of 4 mains, all with rice that came out tepid. Desserts were a choice if 3,which appeared to be basic shop bought and small portions. Granted, the live band was very good, and needed to be paid for but at 25 pounds a head it was very poor value for money, and I definitely won't be going again. Shame, as coffee and cake in the day time is usually very good

Review №70

Can't wait for next week's eating and eating days

Review №71

Such a wonderful, unique atmosphere. So relaxing that you can completely forget that you are still in Solihull!Food is great, cakes are all delicious (believe me I have tried most) and staff are engaged and efficient. Love this place x

Review №72

Amazing place with amazing staff and drinks!

Review №73

I love to visit this place & take all my friends & visitors. I'm a constant visitor to this place, lovely atmosphere. Get on their facebook page to see all the varied activities & gigs they have.

Review №74

Fantastically different! Loved the mini beasts and handling the reptiles! The metal animals around the centre were amazing. As for the food it was great to get some authentic jerk chicken, rice and peas! Staff were friendly and welcoming too! A wonderful place for kids to explore with a beach to play in!

Review №75

Absolutely amazing place would most definitely recommend

Review №76

Great place for culture, very relaxing

Review №77

Amazing place, great African food. I even got to hold a snake. Staff were extremely informative.

Review №78

This place is like u are in another country

Review №79

We visited on a cold January day. The food was good and the surroundings were very interesting, but the highlight was the visit to the reptile house where Olivia, one of the volunteers, spent ages introducing the animals and even letting us handle a few of the snakes.

Review №80

Great atmosphere food and drinks.

Review №81

Celebrated husbands 60th at Akamba. Fantastic atmosphere staff very helpful and friendly. Food really good and great service. Band Antiqity were brilliant can't wait to go again

Review №82

Okay... But looking a little tired. Being rustic is not an excuse for tattyness. Children's beach a great idea but like all good beaches it would be good to give it a good clean overnight. Food interesting but no drinks for children who wish to avoid sugar or "pop".

Review №83

Great food great environment

Review №84

My husband went before Christmas to purchase a gift voucher just as they were due to close to be told we dont sell them. Strange as I had purchased one before so I called back during the next afternoon and guess what they did sell them. The previous assistant obviously could be bothered as it was nearly closing time. It would have been nice to have it in a card or the very least an envelope rather than just a slip of paper

Review №85

Sad really. Was taken there for my birthday, surprise bash with my wife, daughters and there partners. Was initially excited as somewhere knew, an 80's night. Only one thing you need for an 80's night.......80's music. DJ was appauling, beer was extremely over priced especially when the Guinness had a 3 inch head and the barmaid moaned when I asked it to be topped up.Will not be returning.

Review №86

Love the experience but unfortunately maybe due to time of year not alot of the menu on offer or the advertised larger Tusker.

Review №87

I've always loved this place & it was good to visit it again. Its different & interesting. We went for lunch mainly this time - the food was nicely cooked, portions ample & tasted really good but I had already been saddened & disappointed to see that the menu was far more limited this time around than I recalled & the table top was sticky & could have done with being cleaned. At that point I had almost left without ordering but decided to try one of the only four more traditional options (last time I had a gorgeous fish dish but that was no longer on the menu). In retrospect I was glad I had as the meal was delicious but the drinks were served in plastic cups not proper glasses, the sides of chips - whilst again beautifully cooked, were served on paper plates. Those negatives took the edge off the whole experience. On the positive the facilities were clean & our walk around afterwards was as stimulating as always. My message to the manager - think on the small details that make the difference between a nice visit & a great one. I will probably visit again in the future because on the whole it's a nice place to go & the food served in the restaurant was really tasty but I'm not rushing to do so.

Review №88

The garden is lovely, the menu is very limited and despite not being busy when we ordered food it still took an hour to be served

Review №89

Turned up and there was no-one around, it looked closed, we arrived in opening hours and saw someone in a building so waited 10 minutes and no one came, it looked closed for the winter. If it isn't closed it needs a bit more work to make it welcoming and clear.

Review №90

Really interesting small but perfectly sizedFood very good good sized portionsWould be a better visit during the summer as very wet and an all adult partyInteresting metal work African animalsReally well made but take plenty of cash if you want one....and want one you will

Review №91

Completely in love with this place its worth going to have a look cant fault this place at all

Review №92

Eco friendly and exotic

Review №93

Great place to visit and eat. Fantastic metal sculptures of animals and plants and garden ornaments to buy. There is an aviary and a small creatures house where staff let you hold the animals/creepies. My little girl loved it! The food is really tasty, carribean and African options which are hearty satisfying meals, there are also options for the less adventurous.

Review №94

Staff are friendly and experienced. Reptile and bird enclosures are really nice to visit. Live music was a great touch in the atmospheric restaurant. Well worth a visit.

Review №95

A right gem! Really enjoyed our time here. It's a haven for Eastern and Southern African curios, with massive metal animal sculptures and stout stone Zimbabwean figures. And let's not forget the animals - peacocks, exotic birds and snakes, complete with mini beach! Our curry goat and rice was very tasty although I thought the menu could have been broader. Well done for having the vision to bring this to the borders of Brum! Will definitely return.

Review №96

Really great place for food and drinks but you don't get a lot of curry goat I was still hungry after lol

Review №97

Loved the wooden carvings on sale. I loved the bar area really rustic. Apparently live bands are on in the evenings, I imagine it would be a great atmosphere. Friendly staff. It's definitely worth a visit. Close to Birmingham, even if you just go for a coffee.

Review №98

Food was cold, over priced and under portioned.

Review №99

Beautiful place to drink and dine..lovely atmosphere staff are lovely. You walk into another world with tranquil setting..will be visiting much more

Review №100

Went for a reggae night with a group for a 50th birthday party. The venue itself was very nicely laid out and well themed, very much like turtle bay, however we arrived at 7:30pm and within minutes the bar had ran out of brandy, shortly after it ran out of san miguel beer, then it ran out of bacardi spiced rum, and tetleys, so most of the group ended up leaving by 9pm. Also of the 5 items on the "gig food menu" they hadn't got 3 of those available, so nobody ate either. For a bar to run an event and run out of food and drink it's really very disappointing. I think it's a great idea having a themed bar, just very poorly executed.
